    Dick Nelms’ 100th Birthday

    Updated below with photos!

CAF Rainier Squadron will be at the Museum of Flight to celebrate the 100th birthday of WWII B-17 pilot and museum docent USAAF Capt Dick Nelms!

Dick was a guest on our speaker panel at our fundraiser screening of Into Flight Once More.

Weather permitting, we will take Dick on a flight in our 1944 AT-19 which saw service in India with the British Royal Navy. Our hope is that museum visitors will be able to watch the flight operation from the museum parking lot. The specific timing of the flight is TBD.

If you wish to donate to the Museum of Flight and the Blue Star Museums program in Dick’s honor: https://www.museumofflight.org/support/

If you wish to donate to CAF Rainier Squadron to help defray our costs of donating this flight to Dick, we thank you heartily! https://dev.cafrainier.org/donate/

    Film Screening Fundraiser

Join CAF Rainier Squadron for the premiere Pacific Northwest screening of Into Flight Once More, the story of D-Day Squadron, fifteen US-based C-47s and DC-3s which flew to Europe to recreate the June 6, 1944, paratrooper jump into Normandy for the 75th anniversary of D-Day.

    Featuring guest speakers:
Terron Lindholme, 82nd Airborne veteran and D-Day 75th parachutist
Dick Nelms, WWII B-17 pilot and Museum of Flight docent
Eugene Vezzetti, Historic Flight Foundation D-Day 75th DC-3/C-47 pilot

2911 Colby Ave., Everett, WA 98201

    Kids under 16 free!

Free weekend parking in the EverPark garage one block west of the theater at 2815 Hoyt Ave.

    The speakers

Terron Lindholme served as a combat engineer in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg. He completed over 240 jumps and “jumped” again at the opportunity to honor his forebears by parachuting into Normandy in 2019.

Dick Nelms served as a B-17 pilot during WWII and completed thirty-five missions over Europe. He has spoken nationwide about his experiences and life philosophy. You can still find him, at age 99, volunteering at the Museum of Flight at Boeing Field.

Eugene Vezzetti is a flight instructor and retired Northwest/Delta captain. He was a pilot for the Historic Flight Foundation’s C-47 (now DC-3) D-Day Squadron flight to Europe in 2019.

    The film

In 2019, fifteen C-47 and DC-3 aircraft from the United States flew across the Atlantic Ocean once again, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day and the 70th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. With their European counterparts, they once more dropped paratroopers into Normandy and brought history to life through public events in Britain, France, Germany, and Italy.

This is the story of D-Day Squadron.

    About Rainier Squadron

Rainier Squadron is an all-volunteer Pacific Northwest unit of Commemorative Air Force, an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to educate, inspire, and honor through flight and living history experiences. CAF owns over 180 historic military aircraft, most of which fly at public events nationwide.

Our unit members maintain and share with the public a 1944 AT-19 (Stinson Reliant) that served with the UK Royal Navy overseas in 1944 and 1945. We are working to acquire our new permanent home — a WWII-era hangar — where we will house our AT-19 and other locally-owned historic military aircraft, develop a cadet program to introduce youth to aviation through history, and build a museum highlighting local veterans. Join us to Keep’ em Flying!

We thank the Tunison Foundation’s D-Day Squadron and Sound Off Films for this opportunity and the Historic Everett Theatre for donating the venue!
